Bitdeer Technologies, the largest publicly traded bitcoin mining company, has unveiled its proprietary SEAL04 chip for the newly launched SEALMINER rig, with production set to begin in the second quarter of 2025. While the company has not disclosed the chip’s expected hash rate, it is known that the SEALMINER rig’s energy consumption will be optimized to an impressive 5.5-6 J/TH (joules per terahash), a significant improvement over the average rate of 29 J/TH.

Experts believe this breakthrough in energy efficiency will mark a significant technological advancement in the cryptocurrency mining industry. The SEAL04 chip promises much higher bitcoin mining performance with minimal energy consumption, leading to lower operational costs and a reduced environmental footprint.

Bitdeer first announced the successful testing of the SEAL04 chip in March 2024, achieving an energy efficiency of 18.1 J/TH during tests on the SEALMINER rig. News of Bitdeer’s plans to launch a bitcoin mining rig with its own chip, led by Bitmain co-founder and former CEO Jihan Wu, first emerged in early 2023.
