Hackers stole $305 million worth of bitcoins from Japanese crypto exchange DMM Bitcoin
They managed to withdraw 4,502.9 BTC (equivalent to 48 billion Japanese yen).
The exchange confirmed the incident, suspended operations, and promised to compensate users for their losses.
This is the second largest stolen hack among crypto exchanges in Japan. In 2018, 58 billion Japanese yen—approximately $370 million at the current exchange rate—was stolen from the Coincheck platform as a result of a hacker attack.
The DMM Bitcoin exchange belongs to the Japanese DMMcom group of companies, whose activities are related to e-commerce, gaming, streaming services, ISP services, and other services.
